SULLIVAN - Police are searching the woods for a suspected car thief that bolted from Econo Lodge at about 2:30 p.m. today. The man, described as wearing greenish khaki shorts, short shirt and either shoeless or missing a shoe, may be in the woods between the North Service Road and the Mervin Street area or North and South Road area. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Franklin County Sheriff's Office and Sullivan Police are currently searching the area north of the interstate, comprising an area around the Super 8 Motel, Econo Lodge and Baymont Inn. SULLIVAN - A Leasburg man was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital Wednesday afternoon after running into the rear of an SUV about halfway between Sullivan and Bourbon. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2007 Suzuki operated by Rusty Forester, 42, of Leasburg, was being driven eastbound on I-44 near the 221 mile marker when eastbound traffic suddenly slowed. Apparently, Forester's motorcycle struck the rear of an eastbound 2009 Cadillac Escalade being driven by Jeffrey Gamblin, 41, of Collinsville, Ill. The Highway Patrol shut down the eastbound lanes of I-44 while Sullivan and Bourbon fire personnel and Crawford County Sheriff's Office deputies handled the scene. SULLIVAN – A life cut short. A life that was being lived to the fullest. A life that meant so much to so many people. That was evident as hundreds – if not thousands – of relatives, friends, teachers, coaches, classmates and community members poured into the Sullivan High School football stadium Friday night for a candlelight memorial honoring Daniel Schatz, who was killed Thursday in a multiple-vehicle accident on Interstate 44 near Gray Summit.
