Lady Eagles swing past Washington

SULLIVAN - The Sullivan Lady Eagles took care of business Tuesday when they defeated the Washington Lady Blue Jays 15-0 in a four inning run shortened contest.  The Eagles pounded out 17 hits, including six doubles.  Sullivan scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second and five in both the third and fourth innings.
 
Seniors Jett Bouckaert and Hallie Davis both went three for three with Bouckaert hitting two doubles.  Junior Brianna Lore and sophomore Emmie Blankenship were both three for four at the plate.  Lore had RBIs while Blankenship had two doubles and six RBIs.  Sophomore Harli Wheeler was two for three.

Lore picked up the victory for Sullivan, allowing only one hit in four ....

A community prays for Harper Creek

SULLIVAN – More than a hundred people gathered together Wednesday (Aug. 18), joining hands to pray for 18-month-old Harper Creek, who is suffering from a rare form of pediatric cancer. Family, friends and community members prayed together at the gazebo in downtown Sullivan. Cathy Schatz, a family friend who helped organize the prayer vigil, explained that Harper has not responded well to recent chemotherapy treatments and her parents, Ryan Creek and Amber Small, are facing difficult medical decisions about how to proceed with treatment for their daughter. “I pray that God would completely take the cancer away.....

Author recalls infamous family crime story

SULLIVAN – The great-granddaughter of an alleged Franklin County serial killer was in Sullivan recently during a trip to Missouri visiting with fans of the book she wrote about her infamous relative. Author S. Kay Murphy, who wrote “Tainted Legacy: The Story of Alleged Serial Killer Bertha Gifford” about her great-grandmother, was at the home of Marilyn and John Batten on Monday, Aug. 9, to speak with more than two dozen people about the book. Published in December 2008, the book explores whether Gifford, a middle-aged farmwife, was a selfless saint who voluntarily cared for the ill trying to nurse them back to health or a minister of death whose crimes would qualify her as America’s first female serial killer.
