SULLIVAN -- Looks like Mr. Groundhog was right when he predicted six more weeks of winter earlier this week. Snow began falling on Sullivan Thursday night, and continued through Friday morning and afternoon, causing schools to close early and wreaking havok on the roads. The Sullivan School District dismissed classes before noon on Friday due to the inclement weather. Several salt trucks and snow plows took to the roads, but it wasn't enough to stop wrecks from occuring. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Franklin and Crawford counties that is in effect until Friday night. The advisory means snow is expected to continue falling and accumulations of three to five inches are expected. The advisory also cautions motorists to be careful while driving, as the conditions will make roads slick and treacherous. The NWS predicts we'll get a break from the flurries Saturday and Sunday, but another wintry storm could blow in by late Sunday night. "Accumulating snow appears likely from Sunday night through Monday night as another powerful storm system impacts the area," the NWS said.
