SULLIVAN – A Sullivan man whose criminal record includes charges for theft, resisting arrest and multiple counts of assault for allegedly causing an accident while he was driving while intoxicated was recently arrested by the Sullivan Police Department and could face several more criminal charges. Nicholas Watson, 22, was arrested Jan. 16, for being intoxicated, possession with the intent to use drug paraphernalia, stealing from a motor vehicle, stealing a credit card or letter of credit, first-degree trespassing and trespassing on railroad property, the Sullivan Police Department said.

He was taken into custody, but released pending warrant applications, the police department said.

It’s not Watson’s first brush with the law. In 2005, he pleaded guilty to two felony counts of theft/stealing, according to Franklin County court records. He was sentenced to five years in jail, but was given a suspended imposition of sentence. Watson served 90 days shock time in the Franklin County jail and was put on five years of supervised probation, court records show. However, his probation was revoked and he was then incarcerated in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Watson also pleaded guilty in 2005 to operating a motor vehicle on the highway without a valid driver’s license and was sentenced to pay a $28.50 fine.

Two years later, Watson pleaded guilty to a felony for tampering with a motor vehicle, Franklin County court documents show. He also pleaded guilty in 2007 to a felony for resisting arrest. He was sentenced on both charges to two years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. He was to serve time concurrently with his pending sentence.

In August 2009, Watson was charged with five felony counts of second-degree assault for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated that resulted in injury to others. The accident occurred on Highway D, five miles south of Sullivan, when Watson was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road and hit another vehicle head-on. Watson has entered not guilty pleas to all five felony charges. A jury trial has been scheduled for April 1, 2010, in Crawford County Circuit Court.
