SULLIVAN - Firefighters on a local overpass usually signals a bad day for someone. Not on the Friday before Labor Day, because that's when Sullivan Fire Protection District firefighters will be "filling the boot" for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Their warm-up began in front of Wal-Mart Thursday afternoon, where the Sullivan Journal caught up with two firefighters, a cadet, and the Meramec Community Fair 2008 queen.
"We've done pretty good today," said Capt. Damon Sumpter, strategically located in front of the east doors with fellow firefighter Dave Konys. "We expect to.... |

SULLIVAN - Motorists trekking across town along the Elmont Road/Hwy. 185 North route will soon be rid of the Dunsford Drive detour, reports the Missouri Department of Transportation. According to MoDOT, the portion of Elmont Road north of the new overpass that is currently closed to traffic will (weather permitting) open Aug. 29.
The plan is to open Elmont Road and Alice Street to Elmont/Hwy. 185 traffic on the north side at the same time the Elmont/Springfield Road intersection closes on the south side. The north side Elmont traffic will be able to turn onto the new Alice Street, which will intersect the north service road by Mobil. The Elmont/Alice route will handle the Elmont/Hwy. 185 traffic until the overpass opens Oct. 31.
Traffic on Springfield Road near Sonic is slated to open after paving is completed on or about Aug. 29 - this includes the Fisher Drive intersection. For more info, please click on the link below:
